A reminder for nonprofit leaders with full hearts and tired hands

There’s something beautiful—and at times a bit heavy—about leading a nonprofit. You see a need in the world, and instead of turning away, you step into it. You do the hard work, often with little fanfare, and you keep going when others might not.
But here’s something we all need to hear, maybe more than once: You don’t have to do this alone.
Many nonprofits already have boards, volunteers, or supporters who care deeply about the mission. But sometimes the weight still sits squarely on the shoulders of a few. Not because others don’t care, but because they haven’t been given space to step into the work where they’re strongest.
Letting go can feel risky. But when you trust the right people with the right roles—and allow them to bring their own passion, strengths, and ideas into the mission—something incredible happens.
You build a team. Not just a team of helpers, but of believers. People who see what you see, feel what you feel, and want to walk beside you.
Kindness is how missions grow. Kindness in asking for help.Kindness in accepting it.Kindness in letting others be part of the story.
Growth doesn’t come from doing more alone—it comes from doing more together. From releasing just enough control to let new energy, momentum, and trust in.
And when that happens? Your mission has room to breathe. Your reach begins to grow. Your impact multiplies.
So if you're holding it all right now—if your shoulders are tight and your spirit is stretched—please know: Some people want to help.
Some people believe in what you're doing. You just have to let them in.
Start by sharing your story. Start by asking for help. Start by trusting that your mission deserves a team.
You're not alone. And you were never meant to be.
